Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is aware of the post-game exchange Donovan McNabb had with
Jay Cutler during which McNabb offered words of encouragement. Favre was asked today what kind of advice he would give to the struggling Cutler.
"I wouldn't give him any, anything that he wouldn't already know,'' Favre said. "I've obviously have been in that situation at different times of my career.
"For Jay, I know the expectations level obviously was high, as it would have been high in Denver. It comes with a lot of extra baggage, being the star quarterback. ... You try to do too much. I know Jay a little bit, but I don't know him all that well, so it would be unfair for me to sit here and say what he's thinking or doing or whatever. But I think they picked him up for a reason. I think he's damn good. I think he will be good. He'll be fine ... that team will be much better off with him than without him.''

Favre was asked if Cutler reminded him of himself at a young age.
"I think he's better," Favre said.
In terms of his own future, Favre said he has not thought about next year because he's more concerned with leading his team to the Super Bowl this year.
Favre is surprised by the Bears' 4-6 record.
"Anytime the Bears would be a .500 or less, it's a surprise,'' he said. "Lovie's teams have always been very good. And I think they are now. They have had some key injuries. No doubt losing Brian (Urlacher) there at middle linebacker is a huge loss.
"I think Hunter (Hillenmeyer) has done a heck of a job. I still think Lance Briggs is one of if not the best linebacker in football. And Tommie Harris has still got the quickness.''

IrishBears, thanks for your opinion on Hillenmeyer for missing a tackle on Sunday. If you watched the Ravens play the Colts this past week, I seem to remember Ray Lewis whiffing on a Joseph Addai TD run. Addai received the handoff and went into the hole, where Ray Lewis was waiting. Addai made a move and Lewis barely got his fingers on Addai. And we're talking about one of the best linebackers to play in the NFL. I'm not comparing Hillenmeyer to Lewis (they're not in the same league, that's like comparing Michael Jordan to Ron Mercer), but you saying Hillenmeyer is a "joke" because of one missed tackle, something a future hall of famer is guilty of, makes you sound like the "complete f**king idiot."
JB: several years ago this same piece appeared in the Trib in which they talked to Favre about Grossman. No, he didnt say Rex was "better than him" but he said, essentially, the same thing here as he did then..."that we have to be patient," "That he will work through it.', etc.
My comment was more against Favre and the Trib for talking to him about this than it was against Grossman.
Good day
(THIS IS AN ALL CAPS COMMENT FOR A REASON)OK,AFTER WONDERING WHAT IN GOD'S NAME IS JERRY ANGELO WAS DOING WITH THE 2ND ROUND TRADE. I FOUND IT! IN JERRY ANGELO'S MIND, THE NFL WILL HAVE A "NO CAP" SEASON IN 2010. THERE ARE TWO WIDE RECIEVERS THAT WILL BE HIGH ON THE BEARS RADAR. BRANDON MARSHALL AND VINCENT JACKSON. NOT TO MENTION SEVERAL OFFENSIVE LINEMAN THAT IS UNDER 27 YRS OLD THAT HAS GREAT TALENT AVAILABLE. THE CHICAGO BEARS WILL HAVE A WEALT OF MONEY IN 2010 TO GIVE JAY CUTLER ALL THE HELP HE NEED EVEN IF THERE IS A SALARY CAP. ONCE THE NFL RESUME THE SALARY CAP IN 2011 THE CHICAGO BEARS WILL BE IN GOOD SHAPE AS A TEAM IN WHOLE. AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, THIS IS IN JERRY ANGELO'S MIND. WHAT HE HASNT TAKEN IN GREAT CONSIDERATION, THE PLAYERS KNOW THERE WILL NOT BE A SALARY CAP ALSO. My email is DeAngelo.evans@gmail.com
As a Bear fan, one of the few joys of this season is watching Brett Favre perform each week for the Vikings. Until the Bears ownership decides it wants to be competitive, we will have to be content with adopting Minnesota as our team...except for next Sunday, of course. Then we will root again for the Bears.
Hire Shanahan, solves Cuter and runnig game issues
Sirbarry, well if he said the same thing about Grossman, then what does that tell you? Maybe it's not the quarterbacks that they bring in who are the problem. hmmmm.....Please, please, please sign Martz to be the offensive coordinator. Id love for Smith to be fired too but as long as he has a healthy defense and only concentrates on that he's OK for now. Regardless, Turner needs to go and they need to rebuild the OL.
Well remember, Favre wasn't always this great.
I mean I think Atlanta traded him for a 4th round pick or something..
It DOES have to do with the QB Coach, system they are in, AND an Offensive line that isn't... well... Offensive.
Look, Pro bowl QB's do not just lose that ability, so get Cutler a system he can thrive in and a line that can keep him on his feet and not worrying about eating turf every down.. If he still stinks then yes it is his fault, but I still believe that it is more of everything around him than him causing the issues.
Well, you know, we can take this with a grain of salt. Just ignore the guy who owns all of the NFL's passing records and who has played in two Super Bowls, winning one and losing the other to John Elway. Obviously, Brett Favre doesn't know anything about how to be a quality NFL QB. We should instead listen to Bears fans, who have demonstrated their brilliance in evaluating QBs for decades by openly pining for Doug Flutie in the 1980s, Peter Tom Willis in the early 1990s, Shane Matthews in the late 1990s and early 2000s and Kyle Orton in the years since -- well, that is, after booing Orton off the field in 2005 in favor of Rex Grossman, who they then booed off the field in 2007, just a few months after Grossman was under center for two playoff victories in the same season -- something no Bears QB had done since 1986. Yes, let's trust these geniuses to choose a Bears QB.
Oh, and sirbarry, I have absolutely no recollection Brett Favre ever stating that he believed Rex Grossman was better than him. Care to post a link to those comments so we all don't think you're just a Jay/Rex Hater who still has daydreams about Kyle Orton's hypothetical Super Bowl victory?
He said the same thing about Rex Grossman.
