EDMONTON, Alberta--Rookie winger Bryan Bickell was injured during the first period of the Blackhawks game against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night at Rexall Place.

Bickell initiated a hit on the Oilers' Dustin Penner at center ice and Bickell's head appeared to hit the ice following the collision 3 minutes 28 seconds into the game. Bickell was dazed and had trouble getting to his skates and was helped off the ice and into the Hawks' dressing room.

Patrick Sharp replaced Bickell on a line with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.

The Hawks hold a 3-1 lead midway through the first on goals by Toews, Kris Versteeg and Kane. Penner scored for Edmonton.

Former Hawks goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin was a late scratch for Edmonton with a sore back and was replaced by Jeff Deslauriers.
