The Blackhawks opened up a roster spot today by placing center Dave Bolland on injured reserve.
Bolland underwent back surgery for a herniated disc last week and is expected to be sidelined 12 to 16 weeks. He played in 13 games this season and had four assists, six points and 14 penalty minutes.
