SAN JOSE, Calif.--The Blackhawks exploded for three goals -- two of them short-handed to tie a team record -- in the second period and lead the Sharks 4-0 on Wednesday night after two periods.
Marian Hossa, making his Hawks debut, scored on his second shot. It came with the Hawks down a man. The winger took a pass from Jonathan Toews and scored on a breakaway to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Just 28 seconds later, Patrick Sharp also scored while short-handed to make it 3-0. The winger also tallied off a breakaway. In the first, Troy Brouwer had given the Hawks a 1-0 lead while short-handed.
The three shorties tied a Hawks team record. It had been accomplished four other times, most recently Nov. 17, 2007 at Detroit.
Dustin Byfuglien scored the old-fashioned way with the teams at even strength when he poked in a rebound of a Cam Barker shot to make it 4-0 in front of a stunned crowd at the Shark Tank.
