Following a trend that has played out in all three meetings between the teams this season, the Blackhawks and Avalanche went beyond regulation and overtime Wednesday night.

Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews scored in the shootout to lift the Hawks to a 3-2 victory over Colorado in front of a United Center crowd of 20,879. Cristobal Huet got the win in goal for the Hawks and Craig Anderson suffered the loss for the Avs.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the third, the Hawks' Cam Barker tied it with his fourth goal of the season.

Patrick Kane scored in the first period for the Hawks. Kyle Cumiskey and Wojtek Wolski had goals for Colorado.

The two previous meetings between the teams this season went to extended shootouts with each team winning once.
