After a scoreless first period, both the Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings dented the back of the net during the second period Monday night at the United Center.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead early in the second on John Madden's second goal of the season. Madden took a pass from Troy Brouwer and skated down the right side and the veteran center worked his way around Kings defenseman Jack Johnson and sent a backhander past goaltender Jonathan Quick.

Anze Kopitar's 14th goal of the season tied it for the Kings. Kopitar tapped in a rebound of a long Drew Doughty shot past Hawks netminder Cristobal Huet to make it 1-1 after two periods.
