Bears-Browns Game Day

By Vaughn McClure

The Bears lead 16-0 at halftime; here are some first-half impressions from Rick Morrissey, David Haugh and Dan Pompei.

Lineup changes for Sunday's noon kickoff against the Browns include Josh Beekman taking over at left guard for Frank Omiyale and Marcus Harrison in at nose tackle for Anthony Adams.

Harrison started at defensive tackle for Tommie Harris last week and now will play alongside Harris, who is back in the starting lineup.

Hunter Hillenmeyer, as expected, will start at middle linebacker while Nick Roach slides over to strong-side linebacker.

Inactives include Devin Aromashodu, the promising receiver who has yet to make an impact on offense. He played special teams the last few games, but the return of Adrian Peterson from a knee strain meant Aromashodu wasn't needed there.

Also inactive Jarron Gilbert, Juaquin Iglesias, Lance Louis, Matt Toeaina, D.J. Moore, Josh Bullocks and Pisa Tinoisamoa.

The Bears come in as 13 point favorites a week after leaving Cincinnati as 45-10 losers.

Here's some key matchups and Tribune predictions for today's game.

Dan Pompei writes that the Bears should play as angry as their fans are today and that they must handle the Browns huge defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to be successful.

Today will also feature a tribute to Bears legend Walter Payton. He already has a statue in his hometown of Columbia, Miss., but today his mother will be on hand on the 10th anniversary of his death. Here's some classic Payton photos.

Alas, here I sit through another greuling Sunday afternoon watching the Bears, wondering what could be if the O-coordinator only had a clue. The Bears have been through multiple highly touted RB's (Jones, Benson, Forte and more), QB's (Grossman, who was being talked about as MVP early one year, Orton, and now Cutler), WR's (Berrian, Wade, Hester, Moose, Knox etc. etc.) and through all the years there are only 2 constants. Poor offensive production and Ron Turner.

Well, one thing I do know for sure. The CBS pre-game show is the longest 60 minutes in television. Their analysis is about as deep as a Paris Hilton political op-ed.

A few games ago, I thought maybe the Bears would be entertaining to watch this season. Now, they are too frustrating and painful to watch unless you can evoke your humorous side. The offensive line and whole defense is pathetic and playing uninspired football. What happened to defensive Bear pride? The play calling on offense is still as poor as it has been for years with Ron Turner. Yeah, I know the entire offense has to execute for the plays to work, but the play calling seems predictable, unimaginative and just doesn't test or exploit the opponent's defense. Turner is definitely not an offensive mastermind and is plainly mediocre. The Bears do have skill players whose talents are not being fully utilized and the offense is too often dull and plodding through most of the game. No, watching the Bears is getting old and tiresome.
