SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- In a year when no player is seizing the role of Heisman Trophy favorite, Notre Dame's Jimmy Clausen is doing nothing to slip out of contention.
And that's actually enabling him to climb the ladder, as the Irish's junior quarterback now sits second in the latest HeismanPundit.com poll released Tuesday, behind only Alabama running back Mark Ingram.
Ingram, with 56 points and nine first-place votes, has a firm lead over Clausen (26 points, one first-place vote), Texas' Colt McCoy (25 points) and Florida's Tim Tebow (23 points, one first-place vote).
Notre Dame receiver Golden Tate is sixth in the weekly poll of 13 Heisman voters, receiving one first-place vote.
