Like most preseason national basketball polls predicated, Michigan State has been selected as the best of the Big Ten by the media gathered in Chicago.

The Spartans were picked to win the league, returning three starters from last season's national runner-up team.

Junior point guard Kalin Lucas was voted the preseason conference player of the year after averaging 14.7 points and 4.63 assists per game last season.

Purdue was picked to finish second, Ohio State third. Only the top three teams were released.

The rest of the preseason all-conference team highlights the strength of the Big Ten junior class.

Lucas, Michigan's Manny Harris, Ohio State's Evan Turner, Penn State's Talor Battle and Purdue's Robbie Hummel are all juniors. All but Hummel are guards.

Michigan State was selected No. 2 behind Kansas in a national coaches poll released on Thursday.
