Bulls-Celtics pregame potpourri

By K.C. Johnson

BOSTON --- The Bulls received a rude awakening when they arrived here overnight.

After battling Chicago's rainstorms to leave following Thursday's victory over the Spurs, they arrived to their local hotels here around 3 AM Eastern time. An hour later, fire alarms went off for basically the rest of the night.

"I knocked on Kirk's door and asked him if I had to go down to the lobby," rookie James Johnson said.

Turned out to be a false alarm. And several within the organization said the team still had a sharp late-morning walkthrough at a local college.

Derrick Rose said the tendon behind his right ankle was "a little more sore than usual" Friday morning after logging 33 minutes against the Spurs. But he said the injury has improved as the day wore on.

He's starting with the same other four players---John Salmons, Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas, Joakim Noah---against the Celtics.

"I took a nap and my body feels good now," Rose said.

Rose is warming up without taping or his customary ankle braces. But he is doing both---and he rarely tapes---for games.

Here's Vinny Del Negro's pregame scouting report on the Celtics:

"They're all great players, Hall of Fame guys," Del Negro said. "They can post you up. They can spread you out. They have 3-point shooters. They're tough in transition with (Rajon) Rondo. They're loaded. We have to be very efficient with the ball and try to play our tempo. It's going to be a physical game; we know that."

KC, first of all, I appreciate your on the hour analysis. Thanks! Both Organizations have many banners, and had that historical first round bout, but the off season shows the direction of BOTH franchises. One added a veteran clutch shooter, and the other dispatched theirs.

Fire alarms going off at the Bulls hotel all night in Boston? Probably the ghost of Red Auerbach.
