NASHVILLE--The Blackhawks and Nashville Predators were scoreless after one period at the Sommet Center on Thursday night.

The Predators had the better of the play, out-shooting the Hawks 10-6 in the opening period. Hawks penalty killers came up big, killing off three Nashville power plays, including 37 seconds of a two-man advantage after infractions from Niklas Hjalmarsson (tripping) and Dave Bolland (slashing). The Preds had four shots on goal in the sequence but Cristobal Huet was up to the task.

The Hawks' power play continued its struggles as it failed to get a shot against Nashville net-minder Pekka Rinne after Patrick Hornqvist was sent off for tripping Patrick Kane.
