Lovie Smith eyes yesterday's loss from the sideline. (Phil Velasquez/Tribune)
The meeting rooms at Halas Hall are going to be a very uncomfortable place today. Because that is where mistakes will be pointed out and blame will be assessed for what went so very wrong in a 45-10 loss in Cincinnati Sunday.
The locker room will be open to the media later this afternoon, though none of the members of the press expect many players to be hanging around. None of the Bears will enjoy rehashing this one.
Lovie Smith is scheduled to meet the media at 3:45. That press conference could be an uncomfortable place to be too.
Among the questions Lovie is likely to be asked:
*Was the team not prepared?
*Was lack of effort a problem?
*Why couldn't the defense stop Cedric Benson?
*Are there any lineup changes in the offing?
*What happened to the defensive line?
*What's up with Tommie Harris?
We'll have updates on Lovie's answers later in the day.

I know this is really boring and you are skipping to the next comment, but I just wanted to throw you a big thanks - you cleared up some things for me!
I had fun understanding this post. I want to see more on this subject.. Thanks for writing this respectable article.. In Any Event, I’m going to subscribe to your rss and I wish you write great articles again soon.
Ultimately, an issue that I am fervent about. I have looked for information of this topic for the last several hours. Your site is greatly treasured.
Awesome article thx
Thank you Im about to send this site
Chicago Fans=reactionary. Every year it seems to either be "we are the best ever we are going to the superbowl" or "fire everyone". Football is a long term strategy, and major adjustments should never be based on a single game. Putting together a championship caliber team takes a combination of good timing, luck, and a strategy based on several years. Look at the bigger picture here: the bears defense of a few years ago is gone. We have a good start at a stellar offense with cutler, knox, hester, bennet, olsen, and forte, who are all great players. give them time to gel, mature, and learn eachother. we desperately need to rebuild our defense and o line from scratch given that most of our elite players are injured or past their prime. we have the building blocks of a great team but will need a couple of years to get the rest of the pieces in place. chill out. people here complain that cedric benson and kyle orton are so good now that we let them go yet bears fans were screaming to release them when they were with us due to that same reactionary, unthinking perspective. chill out.
Hey, there it is! The troll who discredits opinions based on grammar and spelling. A grammar, spelling, general football knowledge AND a Bears history test!?! I know a little about football, and I ain't got no problem wit' spellin' and proper grammer.
I do know one thing. History don't mean jack, Jack.
If you followed a team which won more than one Superbowl in your lifetime (and yes, I'm presuming you were not of age to appreciate the Championship in '63) you would realize history means very little. And you should hope so.
Your NFC Champion of a few years ago was not even close to the second best team in the NFL that year. Had the Patriots beat Indy they would have spanked you just as well if not better.
The Bears of this decade have pretty much been a mirage, that people like you cannot see beyond yet no one else in the country has even noticed. They have been a fart in the wind; from what I can gather, much like yourself. That may explain your kinship and devotion, but does not excuse your anal trolling.
See you around Jack.
You mopes should have to pass a grammar and spelling test, PLUS a general football knowledge and BEARS history test before being allowed to post on this site. The comments here are crude and uninformed. It's hard to read them and take them seriously at all. Get a clue, or get a life!!! Go Bears.
im from denver 17 to 19 interseptions a year from cutler is average he is right on track better get used to it
There's an easy answer. Just give Jay Cutler another $20 million! I'm sure he'll be much much better next week.
Every player that we send out of Chicago has stellar pro-bowl seasons. Every pro-bowler we get in Chicago, fails miserably. We have a coaching staff that is more worried about looking calm and collected, and a GM who gives away draft picks so we can see just how bad our coaching staff really is.
There is a reason every Bear fan idolizes Mike Ditka even after all these years: he wasn't afraid to show his passion for the game.
Fire your coaching staff, GM, and President. They have done nothing but disappoint. Get someone in with some passion and someone who can fire up this team.
I agree with all of these comments. I am done and I have been a Bears fan for over 30 yrs. I cant do it anymore. Lovie & company should have been FIRED immediately! I could do better coaching. The offensive coach (I wont allow myself to mention his name, too upset already!) has 4 plays that any 10 yr old could design. The 4 plays he has is so easily recognized, one would have to be an idiot (Lovie & company) to continue to run them. EVERY player that has left the Bears does a FANTASTIC job with any other franchise. Makes one say HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!
I'd like to know why you guys traded for Cutler. You got a QB with an arm like a cannon and you use him as if he were Orton. Do you really need Cutler's arm when all you do is throw short passes? Why not try a few down field passes during the game? And don't give me the BS that you can only do what the defense gives you. What, the offense can't set the tone for the game?
ROD TURNER, LOVIE SMITH, JERRY ANGELO, MR. PHILLIPS, PLEASE LEAVE CHICAGO, PLEASE,PLEASE JUST GO AWAY!!!!!
I am soooo done with "The Lovie Bears". Lets bring back the fire that used to be in the Bears D and running game and get Bill Cowher in here pronto!
We need to ask what kind of compromising photos or videos he has of Jerry Angelo. It's the only explanation for why he is still here.
They are both a couple of teenagers who were given the keys to a nice shiny sports car and after several years of neglect and bad judgment have drove it into the ground.
Just two simple questions.
1. When are you going to fire Ron Turner and get anyone..anyone...anyone..to coordinate the offense?
2. When do you plan to put your house on the market?
Are you sure you can beat the California Redwoods?
You hired Ron Turner after he failed as the offensive coordinator for the University of Illinois. Why would you expect anything but a poor, unimaginative offensive game plan from Mr. Turner given his historical lack of success?
I want to ask Lovie all of the questions on this Blog.
And the question of my own is; Why are you still in Chicago?
Ochocinco said in an interview that they could score all day, and he was right. How could they have had such good information?
Get rid of Jerry Angelo,he sabotaged the previous coach and now the whole organisation. Make Lovey an Assistant as he needs more seasoning. Get rid of Turner and bring in Shannahan. Oh yes, maybe the Bears should sue Benson. He took a lot of money for nothing then shows somewhere else he really can play. Brilliant con job.
Smith meets the media this afternoon. The only thing he should say is I RESIGN. Ronald McDonald would have done a better job in having a football team better prepared to play football yesterday.
The players and coaching staff should refuse the paychecks for the week and give it all to charity. If I did that at work, I would be on the bread line in the morning.
Mary, how does being black have anything to do with Lovie's
tenure or bear's result yesterday? You are an idiot. When we were in the Superbowl it had nothing to do with race. Does someone need to monitor these posts
Did you enjoy your three hour nap during the game yesterday?
FIRE LOVIE TODAY!!!! DON"T WAIT ANOTHER DAY!!!!
GET RID OF TURNER TOO!!!!
CUT THAT LAZY BOY TOMMY HARRIS!!!
ORTON IS ALL PRO IN DENVER!!!!!
CULTER IS ALL-SHMO IN CHICAGO.
I GUESS IT'S NOT THE QUARTERBACK.....IT'S SLEEPY LOVIE!!!
HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO GIVE LOVIE A PASS JUST BECAUSE HE'S BLACK???
Why are we so worried about Hester getting hurt running back kickoffs when they wouldn't kick to him anyway giving us great starting postions, he is returning punts he can get just as hurt doing that! Instead of giving Cutler more money you should of gotten him better wide recivers so he could pass to them. But why do we use the same plays we used before we got Cutler when we got him to open up the plays. You need to get an offensive minded coach, that can make plays that will work.
Rod Turner, Lovie Smith, Jerry Angelo, and please Mr. Phillipps, go away! You have destroyed an organization that can't recover in less than 10 years. Turner you were horrible at Illinois and now here...what a surprise. Lovie your deer in the headlights look is getting old...you simply don't have a clue, I don't care if you are saying all of the pollically correct things, you offense is offensive, you defense is awful and your too stubborn to change...so I say good riddance! Jerry Angelo you and Phillipps gave yourself a fat raise for this?! Jerry the Thomas Jones situation was a fiasco (he gained 130 yards yesterday), why did he have to go... (and then you spend the 4th pick in the draft for Benson?!) both would be better than Forte or third round bust Garrett Wolfe. Also what were you thinking going into the season with no wide recievers, no back up running backs, no offensive line, and no secondary....WOW what a total mess! Phillipps is probably as guilty as anyone mentioned here, being tight with the purse strings and foolish in the draft and free agency is a recipe for disaster. You would be a great Wall Street lawyer Ted too bad there won't be a bailout coming soon!
I want to know: What you are thinking when you have that stupid blank stare every game?
I like Bluefan's questions. Almost died laughing at the Halas Hall revolt.
I'm going to hang up my Bears jerseys until Lovie and Co have been fired. I'm not contributing to this franchise anymore. I can't wait to see what this team has in store for the remainder of the season. NOT!
Are you willing to give up your salary for this week given how poorly you prepared the team?
Sorry Bears fans. You think that you got "took" for the Gaines Adams trade. The moment that you got "took" was when you traded for a schizophrenic in Cutler. Now that you see Orton having success in Denver, you can understand why Cutler was able to put up decent numbers. A high school QB can succeed in Denver. Now you're stuck with Cutler and his pouts. He now has to play behind an offensive line similar to Big Ben's, (only Big Ben is able to succeed), and his lack of maturity and intelligence will stick out like a sore thumb in Chicago. Coach McDaniels is the one smiling now.
FANTASTIC GAME!!! ANOTHER NAIL in "comatose" smith's coffin!!! comatose is soooooo lost and should NOT be coaching our beloved Bears! Anyone that hires "a friend" who went ZERO wins, as a head coach no less, the year before should NOT be coaching our defense and comatose should NOT be coaching the Bears! Then there's our ridicu damndiculous offense.... comatose smith needs to have some backbone and RESIGN!!!
Please ask them:
-why did you fire Ron Rivera
-how long would it take to get Mike Shanahan in here
-Why is Dan Pompei a fool for writing that article about how great Ron Turner was
-why have you still done NOTHING about the o-line
-why is the team so lackluster this year
-what overall issue have you gleaned from "watching film"
-how would you like to see a fans revolt at Hallas Hall
Terrible! Put Lovie, and Jerry, on the next bus out of town.
where will you be going on vacation this January?
or, Will you be stepping down, or just waiting for the pink slip?
I haven't seen a game this ill prepared since the Abe Gibron days. What will Be Angelo's answer? Give Lovie another bonus and contract extension!! (Maybe it will fool the McKasky's, and no one will notice how bad this team and it's coaching staff are.)
I drove 5 hours last weekend, expecting to see a great game, I ended up embarressed and wondering what did I do to deserve this. The bemgals were well prepared in every aspect of the game. D line nevers touched palmer in the entire game and o linr nrver gave forte a chance. Begals were forced to punt for first time at 2min left in 4th when practice squad was on field. Game reminded me of playing a madden game on rookie just to pad stats...... oh so depressed
I would simply ask Lovie to resign. Likewise Angelo and all the assistant coaches. And do it this week. I'm beyond mad or frustrated. It's time for immediate personnel changes at the top. When the admission scandal broke at the UofI, the president and provost resigned. This is that kind of disaster - a firing offense.
Will your record be 5-11 or 6-10 at the end of the season?
Why do you refuse to develop talent? Why do you refuse to prepare NFL players for games? Why won't, or can't, you motivate players and coaches? Why aren't you lobbying for help from the front office? Gaines Adams didn't help! Don't tell me you're prepared for draft day or free agency when this is the result! This is em-bear-ass[whoping]-ing to the nth degree, I'm ashamed and I'm frustrated by this organizational loss. I hope the McCaskey's call Lovie and Jerry to the carpet over this. Furthermore, anything less then a 45-0 win at home over the Browns and they should clean house. Beginning with Lovie Smith, Ron Turner and Rod "the savior of the pass rush" Marinelli. I don't care who coaches them or what happens to the season, that will satisfy this fan.
I agree that the head coach and GM stubbornness and "denial" is destroying this team. Kevin Jones goes down but Angelo doesn't feel the need to get another feature back...Urlacher goes down and he doesn't believe we need to get an experienced LB. He also feels are receivers are good enough...c'mon man, stop running for "GM of the year" and get the players we need! I take that back. (ie Adams for a 2nd round pick next year, Omiyale sucks, Orlando Pace-haha. Angelo poor talent evaluator) Really, do you think you can make it to the playoffs behind the Vikes and Packers. We already are playing handicapped w/this coaching staff. If things don't change, we maybe cellar dwellars for the next 2-3yrs.
what I would ask Lovie. when are you and Turner going to leave the Bears? I hope the answer is yesterday.
Can you please hand out masks before each home game to protect the paying fans from the stench??
If you can't get to the QB rushing 5 or 6 guys, GIVE UP ON COVER 2! Go to the 3-4, and try to stop getting picked apart by these QB's. We obviously don't have the personnel to effectively execute the Cover 2, which is being made obsolete by the D Coordinators around the league anyway. I mean, the PACKERS have switched to the 3-4, and they have never been known for innovation.
Why are you so slow and dense? Were dropped on your head at birth.
Way out of control. Time for Lovie and Angelo to move on. Benson is now the top rusher why not in Chicago? Now Forte is in the same position Benson was..no where. Thanks Lovie but see ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jerry Angelo AND Lovie Smith should be fired for not thinking ahead. Yes we have a very good QB but we have no supporting staff. The future looks bad with top draft picks being given away. This is the big time, we better get with the program ASAP or face several more seasons like this one.
I agree with the previous two comments. I'd ask the same things. Do you expect to continue to have a job when you clearly demonstrate a lack of ability to adjust your defense and when you clearly approach a game so totally unprepared?
I have only one question for Lovie....
How long will it take you and Ron Turner to clean out your offices and get the hell out of Chicago????
My question:
When can we expect your resignation?
